Chris Buono

Self-appointed "multi-media guitar madman", Chris is not one to be tied down to any one identity for too long. He is perpetually morphing his chameleon-like media profile making it nearly impossible to pigeon-hole his artistic output into a singular category. With a guitar in hand and a slew of gadgets within arm’s reach, Chris Buono infiltrates the modern world of guitar from all directions and shows no signs of slowing down.

Chris Buono Writes About Launchpad

24-03-2011

Chris Buono is a US based guitarist who has written a book titled Your Ableton Live Studio where he discusses the use of Launchpad and Ableton. We managed to tear him from his busy schedule to answer some questions about it, and how Launchpad has changed the way he works.

What inspired you to write a book?

Well, this is not my first rodeo! This is actually my third book for Course Technology (Cengage Learning) and fourth overall. But, the inspiration to write a book on Ableton was ignited back when I was doing my first one on recording guitars. In my research I got into version 4. Writing these books is a great way for me to go in deep on an application and I was super amp'd to do that with Live after about an hour of toying with it!

How are you incorporating Launchpad into your current rig?

So far the Launchpad has been my go-to controller when I'm on the move and when I just need to set up real quick and toss around ideas when I have a little down time. Since it's so light and bus powered I can easily cart it around in my gig bag. As for the big stuff I'll be mapping Sets for the upcoming Karsh Kale tour dates next year as well taking advantage of the User sections making some crazy custom setups for real-time tweakery.

Any tricks we should know about?

Hell yeah! Here's an easy one: Check out nativeKontrol. It's one guy based out of Buffalo and he writes setups with Bome's MIDI Translator. If you're looking for a way to completely take over Live's GUI without doing the grunt work as well as get into using a Launchpad in some very cool ways performance wise, this guy has got some ill stuff to geek on.

Chris' book, Your Ableton Live Studio, is available on Amazon and from other good booksellers now.
