Krazy Baldhead and his SL MkII
13-01-2010

Krazy Baldhead, or Pierre Grison to his friends, is a serious Ableton user. There isn't a feature beyond him in the application, and he's even on a team of exclusive beta-testing artists given priority access to the latest revisions of Live.
Pierre is a studio-based producer, but also a prolific live artist, wowing crowds over the world with his brand of hook-laden electronica. At the heart of his rig is a Novation Launchpad, with which he launches clips, triggers beat repeats and engages effects. A Novation 25 SL MkII controller keyboard sits aside it, providing hands-on control for all elements of his his Live Set.
"I've got eight tracks in Ableton (two drums, two bass, two leads and two synths), and I've mapped the faders on the SL MkII to the frequency of Ableton's Auto Filters, so I can mute tracks and have a filter at the same time".

Pierre uses the knobs for controlling the effects on each track, "these are mainly beat repeats that I use on non-drum tracks. Then I have some buttons to launch some hi-hats, and on the Launchpad's User mode, I can have some other beat repeats that act on the master track, so I can make instant breaks." Pierre carries the whole setup in a rucksack, "the whole thing is very powerful, and it's cool that I can carry it around so easily."
