The 9th 'Speed Dial' knob is found on Novation controllers. It allows you to take instant control of anything that your mouse/cursor is positioned over. So you can get your hands onto any software parameter without any assigning at all! 

If you suddenly need detailed control of a level or effect-send whilst performing, just point the mouse and grab the Speed Dial.
