See the names and values of everything you are controlling
Producers, musicians and sound designers need hands-on control of their music software without the headaches that come with controllers. Novation's Automap control software enables you to assign things quickly, and keep track of which knob, fader or button is controlling which bit of your software.

Automap's software edit page graphically shows you the hardware control surface. It labels each knob, fader or button with the name of whatever it is controlling, and the value, so you can see it without having to move a control and lose whatever it was set to.

Click, Touch, its assigned!
Some DAWs/sequencers have their own 'learn' function, which allows you to quickly assign controls to things in the software.

Automap allows you to 'learn' knobs, faders and buttons to all 3rd party plug-in instruments/FX too (like UAD, Native instruments, etc…) This includes VST, AU, RTAS and TDM format plug-ins.

You can 'learn' knobs and faders to major DAWs' own plug-in instruments/FX with Automap. So you can get also instant control of the 'built-in' plug-in instruments/FX in Ableton, Pro Tools, Logic 9, Cubase/Nuendo, Reason/Record and Sonar.

Controllers that communicate with your music software
It can be difficult to keep track of what your software is set to. So if you move the filter cut-off level for example in your software, a LED ring around the knob will automatically update on your hardware to tell you where the new level is. (If you are using an SL MkII, all the names and values of what you are controlling are updated on the LCD screen too).

All the names and values of whatever software parameter you are controlling will appear in Automap's software edit page, and be updated whenever you change anything.

Create and share your 'Mappings'
When you have assigned controls to your most frequently used plug-ins and other music software, you can save these as "mappings". There is a community area on the Novation site where you can upload your favourite mappings, and download other peoples. This means there is an ever-growing library of mappings for a huge variety of music software.

At Novation we are constantly building new mappings to try and keep up with the huge number of music software packages available. So when you load up a commonly used piece of music software, Automap will find a sensible mapping for it and "Auto-map" it for you. If a mapping does not already exist, Automap will randomly assign software parameters to hardware, then you can simply more them about using the instant 'learn' function.

Overview
What is Automap?
Automap is a piece of software that comes with all Novation controllers. It has been designed to make the job of assigning your hardware controls to various software parameters quick and easy.

For example, this is Nocturn Keyboards control surface alongside the Automap edit page:

Out of Control?
Despite having knobs and sliders, most MIDI controllers are no good at controlling plug-ins. You have to read through the manual, find out the MIDI controller numbers for each control, and manually assign and name each parameter, letter by letter. Some controllers come with templates, which just fix controls to a few parameters on a hand-full of plug-ins.

In Control
Automap enables knobs, faders and buttons to instantly control plug-in instruments/FX, as well as your sequencer's mixer, transport controls and more…

• With Automap, when you open a plug-in, you have instant access to all the plug-in parameters, allowing you to assign knobs, faders and buttons, by simply clicking on the software parameter, and touching the control.

• Automap's edit page graphically shows you the entire control surface, labelling each control so you can see exactly what is assigned to what.

• Automap feeds back information from the plug-in, telling you what each parameter is called, and its current value: e.g - dBs, cutoff, LFO speed etc.

• If you want to use MIDI continuous controller numbers, simply type them in to the software edit page, and name your parameter.
