Introducing… - April 24, 2008
As this is my first time blogging in I thought I would introduce myself and give you a potted lowdown on my background. My name is Robbie Bronnimann. I am a writer/producer/remixer and live performer. I come from a classical music background with all the usual grades in piano and trumpet, with aspirations of a life as a concert pianist. However, when I first saw a synth those dreams went down the plug hole rapidly much to my mothers disgust. Since those heady days of early synth, drum machine & sequencer exploration I have carved a career producing & writing for artists including The Sugababes , Howard Jones and Andy Hunter. Remixing for the likes of Chicane, Ferry Corsten, Art Of Trance, Mogwai, Young Punx & released my own artist albums & 12″ under the names dba and tektonik. Most recently, after producing & co-writing ‘up & coming’ album Colour for Nettwerk artist Andy Hunter, we jointly jumped from the proverbial frying pan into the fire by taking on scoring the full score for & soon to be released big US film called Expelled which was literally a baptism of fire in the secret art of music to film.
But as we roll through April I find myself between the comfy surroundings of my studio producing 2 albums simultaneously and flitting all over the world playing as an electronic duo with Howard Jones. My role in this is not as the traditional keyboard player but more of a master of ceremonies when it comes to the live sequencing, sampling & general audio manipulation/mangling which is the foil to Howards amazing keyboard skills & vocal abilty. I have had a long and happy association with Novation from the early Bass Station days through to the groundbreaking Supernova and onto the ReMote range which have been the backbone of my touring work for a few years. And its with this particular aspect of my current work that I will now be giving the Nocturn a full workout alongside my trusty ReMOTE 37 SL. Next time I will set the scene a little more as to how I am using it & give you my initial thoughts after its first few gig outings.
