Launchpad In The House!
Cutmaster DC, one of the founding fathers of Brooklyn hip hop, has taken to Novation's Launchpad in a big way.
In his 32 years of hip hop, Cutmaster DC has produced numerous old school classics, most famously 'Brooklyn's In The House", which officially put his district of New York City on the hip hop map. More recently, Cutmaster DC, under the moniker DJ Hakim, has compiled over 80 mixtapes in various genres, from house to reggae, and of course, hip hop.
“One of the things that impresses me most is how you can play Launchpad like an instrument and actually create a song live“
His latest project will see Cutmaster DC rise again for a 25th anniversary celebration of 'Brooklyn's In The House', and he'll be using Novation's Launchpad to get the beats together. "One of the things that impresses me most is how you can play Launchpad like an instrument and actually create a song live. For a DJ to create beats almost effortlessly on stage is like taking the DJ back to the original form of showmanship. When I saw the Launchpad demos at the AES show, my mouth was open; and we ain't even at the turntables yet!"
- Another aspect of Launchpad that impressed Cutmaster DC was the way it integrates with Ableton Live, "I'm excited about Launchpad because of the self-containment of it. Whatever it is you want to do can be done with the Launchpad and Live."
